I have written previously regarding Dolan's appointment and the curious glee which accompanied his appointment. Curious to ME because I previously saw him officiating at a Mass in NYC smiling and welcoming practicing GLBT community members to partake in the Body and Blood of our Lord. And NOW ... GOD HELP US ... He's on a talk show saying that Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks to GOD .... oh just watch the short video ... I can't it again!! :-(
NO WONDER he thinks all is WELL in the Catholic Church in America!!! If you aren't already praying and doing penance for the clergy, you best START!

Great post! I hadn't heard that Archbishop Dolan supports the GLBT community. We need more Bishops to stand firmly for Truth and defend Truth like Pope Benedict instead of being wishy-washy and pandering to the public. Thanks for keeping me up to date and in the know. God Bless!
ReplyDeleteThanks Teresa ... well I'm not sure he would ADMIT to SUPPORTING them, but he most CERTAINLY did not exhibit any PROBLEM with them at Mass as evidenced by his cheery smile and displayed interest! And now this ... actually saying HE or she for God .... I can only shake my head and pray for more hours in the day to PRAY!
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about Bishop Dolan, but just on the subject of calling God "He" or "She", I think we have been given teachings and insight through the years on both the male and female Attributes of God, and that God is neither male nor female, but pure Spirit, and we can relate to either or both of the aspects of God's Attributes. There are so many examples, but for instance, in the Old Testament we find that God wishes to give us milk from the breast; Pope John Paul II spoke of God as Mother in the 1990s; and of course we have Julian of Norwich, in her Revelations, where Jesus as Mother is revealed in the visions. I think there are so many who need, and maybe especially at particular times in their lives, to know and understand the nurturing aspects of God, and nurturing is primarily a female gift.
ReplyDeleteDo you have references for your points above? I'd like to research that please :) But as far as I know, Jesus taught us to pray and He told us to say "OUR FATHER Who art in heaven.... " :) I tend to believe that spirits in general are non gender but God has always been referred to as masculine as Jesus and the Holy Spirit ... we have Mary for our feminine influence to ask to intercede for us.
ReplyDeleteThere can be only one Truth .. one Source .. if you get away from that, then it's up for grabs on who wants to believe what at any given time. Complacency and relativism is killing the country and sending many souls down a slippery slope to perdition. Tread carefully on generalized 'spirituality'. :)
Battle Beads, so sorry that I'm just reading your comment at this late date! I really would like to give you some more thorough background on what I referred to in my previous comment, but since it's too long for here I've posted it at my blog, Contemplative Haven. Rest assured, re the question of male/female, it is not generalized spirituality, but the teaching of the Catholic Church, and also revealed to us by Catholic saints and mystics.
ReplyDeleteMy impression from the video though, was that Michael was not emphasizing the male/female debate (although he did emphasize the word "him" at the end) so much as the Bishop's not directly speaking of Jesus or the Holy Trinity in the interview.
